About Shelly Labak
Who am I and why should you trust me with your home? Well, I am happy to introduce myself, my name is Shelly Labak. I am a professional organizer and life coach. I am beyond grateful to share my story and my program to help bring order and peace to your home. By nature, I have always been an organized person!Having said that, Iwant to share a little bit of my journey and how it all started. The year was 2008, do you recall the year? The world wasexperiencing trying difficult times. If you wanted to thrive or survive the times, you most definitely had to think out of the box. At that time, I was a stay-at-home mom with 2 elementary agedkids, and I wanted to continue to be there for my kids, so being clever was key! I had been running my own personal training business out of our home since my kids were little and it was going quite well until 2008 hit. Personal training was now considered a luxury and my clients slowly dropped off one at a time and new ones were not coming my way.
I had to get creative fast especially if I wanted to keep being there for my kids! So, I started a kid’s fitness program called “Be Fit kids” offered at local preschools. It was fun to teach kids healthy habits and exercise.This was such a great idea because at the time parents were still spending money on their kids. I ran the fitness program out of 2 local pre-schools, and it was a hit!However, it wasn’t enough to keep me home with my kids. So, I had to dig even deeper. I posted an ad in Craigs List – for personal assisting/cleaning/organizing. At that time, one of my ex-personal training clients connected me with a local family that needed help and that’s where my organizing journey began. The word traveled quickly and soon I had regular weekly clients.
Thank goodness my own home was in good shape and now it was my time to help others! The first family that I helped had 4 kids. The mom was an on-line professor and the dad had his own software company that he worked out of the house. They all LOVED me. I helped with everything from meal planning, grocery shopping, laundry, preparing meals and transforming the house room by room. I LOVED helping people live more peacefully. I helped many families for 4 years and then went back to a corporate job. My organizing business was on pause for 8 years. When COVID hit in 2020, and the realization evermore evident that life is too short and you should be doing what you love. In January 2021, I was able to leave my corporate job and re-start my organizing business. This time I came up with a wonderful name that says it all. “Simplify” and live your best life. The Home Edit girls made it a little easy for me as EVERYONE was talking about organizing. However, my philosophy is a little bit different from theirs as I integrate my personal training experience along with my love for the environment. I try to reuse and repurpose items already in the home only purchasing products when completely necessary. Making your organizing experience truly one you will feel really good about. I look forward to bringing peace and order to your home/space.
